Lightning is a shih chon (Shih Tzu/Bichon). In other words, he is a cute little teddy bear dog. He was born on July 12, 2009, in Lancaster, Wisconsin. He currently weighs 3.53 pounds, but he should eventually weigh 10-15 pounds. He is a little shy, but once you get to know him, his adorable qualities come out in full force.

What to Name the Puppy?

It was a harder task than I thought it would be to name my puppy. From the moment that I saw his picture on www.practicalpuppies.com, I was looking forward to meeting him. I started to pick out names, but I wanted to wait until I met him to name him. A friend suggested that I name him Packers because he was born in Wisconsin. Needless to say, my brother (a die-hard Vikings’ fan) was not too thrilled with that name when I joked with him that that is what I had named the puppy. With that name out of the question, I still had a tough decision to make…so many names to choose from, but only one would suffice. My brother and sister-in-law had named their dog Mater (from the movie Cars) so my brother suggested that I name my dog Lightning. I had considered the names Chase, Sam and Popcorn, but ultimately the name I chose was Lightning because of my brother’s suggestion and because of the puppy’s orange (apricot) coloring.

It was a blast (quite literally) to be a part of Lightnings first visit to the vet :-) I never knew a puppy could have such a 'ferocious' bark (thinking he's king of the hill around other animals or people:) or such a stinker (borrowing your word Kim:)-where all the windows (including the sunroof) had to be opened immediately so we weren't overcome by his 'little' gift. Wouldn't trade him for the world!! Congratulations on your awesome puppy. I look forward to watching him grow:-)
