What to Name the Puppy?
It was a harder task than I thought it would be to name my puppy. From the moment that I saw his picture on www.practicalpuppies.com, I was looking forward to meeting him. I started to pick out names, but I wanted to wait until I met him to name him. A friend suggested that I name him Packers because he was born in Wisconsin. Needless to say, my brother (a die-hard Vikings’ fan) was not too thrilled with that name when I joked with him that that is what I had named the puppy. With that name out of the question, I still had a tough decision to make…so many names to choose from, but only one would suffice. My brother and sister-in-law had named their dog Mater (from the movie Cars) so my brother suggested that I name my dog Lightning. I had considered the names Chase, Sam and Popcorn, but ultimately the name I chose was Lightning because of my brother’s suggestion and because of the puppy’s orange (apricot) coloring.

The New Puppy Has Arrived!
Lightning was brought home from his birthplace (Second Wind Farm) in Wisconsin on Saturday, October 3, 2009. He was sad to leave his siblings and friends at the farm, but his extended family and friends love him very much already. Lightning is excited to meet his ‘cousin’ Mater as well as Lucky and the cats in Minnesota. I am sure that they will get along well together.
Lightning is a very ‘bright’ dog as he has already figured out how to get out of his pen. Mom and I had put him in his pen while we were at church, but when we came back, he was not in his pen. Instead, he was resting comfortably on some blankets in the living room. He even had to bark to let me know that he was proud of himself for getting out.
He is a very loving dog, and he reminds me of a cat that we have on the farm named Tyke. Tyke is notorious for loving hair, and Lightning has the same fascination with hair. If there is anything small on the ground, this little one is sure to find it and try to eat it. I guess he will help me keep the apartment clean. : )
